About the Course
Learn to play soulful melodies and energetic rhythms on the guitar. This course builds finger strength, coordination, and confidence, perfect for beginners and aspiring performers.
Guitar lessons start with holding the instrument correctly, tuning it, and playing clean open chords. From there students move through strumming patterns, transitions between chords, and then picking and lead work. Most students are playing recognisable songs within the first couple of months, which is what keeps practice going at home.
Who this class suits
Suitable from around age eight, when hands are large enough to fret comfortably, through to adult beginners. Students who already play are assessed and taught from where they are.

Common Questions
- Do I need my own guitar?
- You can use a school instrument during class, but students progress far faster with a guitar at home to practise on. We are happy to advise on an inexpensive first instrument.
- Acoustic or electric?
- We teach both, but recommend starting on acoustic. The technique transfers directly and it needs no amplifier.
